The project consists in the complete refurbishment of a basement floor in a former industrial building in Milano to house the headquarter of a new oats drink company and its product development lab.
In the spirit of an economy of means an analysis was made to be able to decide what to demolish and what to adapt. It was very clear since the beginning the need to restore the original industrial openness, therefore drywall partitions were demolished and some new openings in the walls were made. What was still valuable was the whole installation system. The machinery was in a good condition and the floating floor and hanging ceiling could have been maintained to save a lot of resources. Glazed partitions were installed to define spaces according to the program and their iron/glass look dialogues perfectly with the original windows. At this point the layout of the installations hanging from the ceiling and the floor plan do not match anymore, creating lively contradictive situations. The whole floating floor was covered by wood which counteracts the fragmentations of the ceiling by bringing unity and warmth.
